Ouzoud Falls , The hidden Niagara falls of Morocco

If you like nature and you are a lover of landscapes formed by water, rock and vegetation, this is the excursion you are looking for. The Ouzoud waterfalls are the largest in North Africa and are only 150 km northeast of Marrakech in the province of Tanaghmilt, in the Atlas Mountains.

The name of the waterfalls and the river comes from the forest of olive trees that frames this work of nature since Ouzoud means in Berber olives.

This wonder of nature has a height of 110 m whose spring falls into a lagoon where bathing is allowed, but, of how cold it is, only the most adventurous dare. Its crystal clear water will invite you to take a dip that will end up being unforgettable.

A beautiful space is hidden behind the vegetation and rocks that is a must if you are visiting Marrakech. Its fall of 110 m, is divided into three falls and throughout the year maintains its flow, so any time is perfect to visit the Ouzoud waterfall.

HOW TO GET? 

The options that there are to visit the Ouzoud waterfalls are :

Book an organized excursion. We know that it is one of the most popular options, that's why they offer you a route organized in 4 × 4 and picked up at the hotel with which to take care of everything else. Or you can hire a taxi for the whole day.


The site from where they break into a small lagoon can be accessed in two ways: the fastest way is the stepped and the rural that has a path to the waterfalls. However, one of the most impressive views that the waterfalls offer is from above from the viewpoint before going down both routes. The view of the lake, the walls and the waterfalls give this place an undoubted beauty that will be hard to stop contemplating. Going down the rural route through the forest is very common to find macaques jumping among the trees or sheep grazing.

LEISURE AT THE OUZOUD WATERFALLS 


When you arrive below, you will see that, in the lake where the waterfalls break, there are many rowers with their boats inviting you to climb. If you go up, you will have a very fun time seeing that the rower will get as close as possible to the area where the falls break, which will put the icing on the tour. 

Although a picnic in front of the waterfalls is an option that many choose, in Ouzoud there are plenty of dream restaurants with views of the waterfalls that go around 70-80 DH (7-8 € approximately) with exquisite meals. 

Therefore, do not hesitate to get closer and visit the Ouzoud waterfalls, passing noon in the area. This haven of peace that opens in the middle of the mountain is just one more example of the unique geographical wealth that Morocco hides.
