Everything you need to know about visiting Dades Valley and Gorge !

An authentic route to the Moroccan southeast to admire the essence of its geography. This would be the perfect definition of the well-known Dades Valley or also "the road of the thousand kasbahs". It goes from Ouarzazate (192 km from Marrakech) to the east of Tinghir and the Todra Gorges. The valley is located in the southern oasis, where geological and mineral deposits abound.

The area is inhabited by Berber tribes, complete constructors of the houses and castles fortified with adobe or kasbahs. In addition, in the Dades Valley is rich in gorges and karst canyons that form a landscape of eroded rock formations and folds unique in the world due to the geographical and climatic conditions of Morocco. For example, the erosion of the Dades gorges is popularly known as the "monkey fingers" because their rounded, stacked shapes seem to recreate the fingers of this animal (if you throw imagination).

Ouarzazate is the beginning of the desert and gate that goes into the geographical aridity of the Dades Valley. A spectacular route that abounds with palm groves, villages and forests. The Dades Valley owes its name to the river that meanders the mountains, the Dades River. This, born in the high Atlas, on the slopes of Jebel Ayyachi, is a tributary of the Draa River, near Ouarzazate, where it forms the El Mansour reservoir. According to the furrow that follows, it turns into an oasis all over where it passes: poplars, almonds, palms ... are the types of plants that can be found in the vegetation cores of the Dades Valley. The difference between an oasis and the rest is so drastic that it confirms the rule: where there is water, there is life.

Depending on where you look, the landscape will be different. Its wild essence allows you to exchange the white tones of the snowy mountains with a semi-desert of ocher and terracotta tones that you can only imagine if you see it with your own eyes.

A village from which it is easy to access the gorges of Dades is Boumalne Dades. From there, you can also find the Todra Gorges, which deserve a visit because it is a very special rock formation.

To visit the Dades Valley you can do it in different ways: by car, and if you do not have your own in Morocco, you can also rent it. Another option is to hire an organized excursion, which will be more economical and comfortable.
